I’ve been coming back every year since my first visit in 2019, and even with a 12-hour drive from Miyazaki Prefecture, this inn feels worth the trip. It sits so naturally among the surroundings that the building itself seems to blend into nature, and there are lovely views from the room, hallway, and lobby. The rooms and baths are cleaned with such care that I can only imagine how much work goes into keeping them that way. The meals are fresh and better than anywhere else I’ve eaten, and the private baths are wonderful. Having such a large bath all to ourselves without an extra charge was a real treat. I was especially impressed by how the landlady and young landlady understand dogs. Dogs can get nervous somewhere new, and their noses pick up scents that even careful disinfecting may not remove. I really respect their choice not to supply special dishes or cages, and instead ask guests to bring familiar things from home. Hidemaru Hanagokoro also limits stays to three groups a day, apparently to avoid guests inconveniencing one another. It feels like the comfort of people and their dogs comes before profit. Calling it just a "pet inn" seems disrespectful to Hidemaru Hanagokoro, given how much thought the owners put into caring for animals.

We stayed here on our first trip to Mie Prefecture with my wife, our dog, and family. I found the inn while looking for pet-friendly places, and it was a lovely place to unwind together. The landlady and young landlady were warm and attentive, and everything was so well cared for that it was hard to believe dogs were welcome. There was loads of fresh seafood at meals, caught by the husband on his morning fishing trips. We also had the hot springs to ourselves, and the water, said to be good for your skin, helped ease the tiredness from our long journey. In the morning, we had a panoramic sea view from our room. Walking the dog through the natural surroundings and the nostalgic, old-fashioned fishing port town was a perfect way to start the day. I highly recommend it for a relaxing stay with your dog.

I was so glad to find this inn when I was looking for somewhere that accepts small animals. The guest limit meant it felt peaceful for us and our pets. Our room was spacious, and the fish was so fresh we ended up eating far more than I expected. The proprietress was kind and fun to chat with, and the staff were all friendly, so I felt really relaxed here. Such a nice place. I’d love to come back 😊

I came with our director from a Miyazaki animal welfare organization. For 20 years, ever since he began working on his own, the innkeeper has donated all the money collected at the inn to our organization without ever meeting or seeing us. He’d always said he wanted to visit and thank her, so I went along right away. A typhoon was on its way, so the view wasn’t at its best. Still, we were welcomed warmly and had a great time. The large windows made the view feel like a picture, and the room was spotless. I also loved the stylish yukata. Dinner was almost like a sumo stable, the table was piled so high with food that I nearly laughed, and we couldn’t finish it all. What a shame. Breakfast was very satisfying too. The innkeeper and her young daughter are dependable people who’ll lead the next generation. I’ll be cheering them on from behind the scenes. I hope to return with my grandchildren, and I’m looking forward to keeping up my own efforts.

My family and I visited Toba and stopped by for a day spa. The family bath was a lovely temperature and felt great. The landlady and young landlady treated us so kindly, and their smiles really lifted our spirits. We had such a fun chat. I’d love to go back next time I’m in Toba!
