The house was new and clean, but the kitchen was missing a lot of basics: no knives or coffee spoons, barely enough forks, glasses and plates, no net for the sink, and no rubbish bags. There was no cleaning equipment in the bathroom either. We could call staff, but they took around 40 minutes to arrive. They need to either stock the houses properly or get essentials to guests quickly. We stayed for two nights over a weekend, and check-in had a very long queue.

Our dog-friendly cottage came with access to a great dog run at no extra charge, which was lovely. We were placed in a quiet area up the hill, a bit of a walk from reception. That was fine since we weren't using the breakfast or dinner options. If you want to use things like the hot spring, staying closer to reception is probably more convenient.

We were in Zone A, where the room felt old and dusty. The hair dryer didn’t work, and we had to switch off the bedroom heater because it smelled like something was burning. Everything else was fine for me, but it was still a bit disappointing.

After a day at Nasu highland park, I had a lovely time in the garden in front of the rental villa, playing with my granddaughter using a water gun.

It’s a great place, though you pay extra for everything beyond the room, even ping pong and Frisby golf. I feel like those activities could be included, but fees like that are pretty normal in Japan.
