Miya Onsen Higaki Hotel

The only real negative on our trip was a small hiccup with the shuttle service. The staff were kind, spoke fine English, and were a delight overall. I had a lovely night, with delicious breakfast and spacious, comfortable rooms with a lovely view of the Bay. The onsen baths were a little small, but not enough to bother me. Hope to visit again soon.

The public bath and open air bath were excellent, and the food was good too. We had a good stay at this old building with its rustic feel. I hope they maintain the carpet or maybe change it, and I wish they’d maintain the pool.

The seaside room is bigger and feels more luxurious overall. The view is stunning and worth the money. The mountain side room is small but cozy, with a bathroom that isn’t good enough, kind of plastic and small. The location is wonderful, and even the women get a little ocean view. The Onsen is one of the best I’ve been in, and there’s plenty of super great, traditionally Japanese made food. Staff are friendly, and they have a small bus to pick you up at the station.

The main drawback is that, in 2021, the hotel felt quite old and outdated and needed some serious renovation to make it more attractive. The food was quite gorgeous, Japanese style for both dinner and breakfast. Rooms are Japanese style, with no western beds, but comfortable futons spread on real tatamis made for a pleasant sleep. They were very clean and spacious, with stunning views of the Mikawa bay. The water comes from a 100% natural spring deep underground. One Onsen is indoors, and the second is smaller, outdoors, and open air. Both are quite pleasant.
