We stayed in a room with a kitchenette, though you can also camp in tents by the river if you want a more outdoorsy stay. The setting is the real highlight: there’s a clear mountain stream, forest and mountains, plus the Toki River walking trail starts at the end of the parking lot and is worth visiting even if you aren’t staying overnight. After a hot day, you can cool off in the river or warm up in either of the two wood-fired Finnish saunas, then take a dip in the icy water from the deck by the river. I liked tending the stove and smelling the oak smoke before getting in. There’s also a sandbar at a bend where you can skip stones or sit by the water. The river isn’t huge, which makes it good for kids, though you might spot a fish or two. Even without using the sauna, it’s lovely to sit by the bank with a drink or snack and enjoy the scenery. The main lodge has a wood stove and billiard table, and works as a library, restaurant, games and crafts area, and a place to hang out. There’s a self-serve tea, coffee and juice bar with nuts, dried fruit and chocolates, and you can play pool, draw or chat about your adventures. The shop has gifts, snacks, wine and beer.

The tent was surprisingly cozy, and I slept like a baby. We chose the tent option, and all the cooking gear was already set up. We had a wonderful stay and hope to come back. The camp cat is sweet, so please feed her if you see her. I’m glad to report she’s doing much better now. Someone kind seems to have taken her to the vet to be checked and spayed, and she looks great, maybe even a bit chubby. There are two other cats now too, including the male tabby in the picture.
The table and chairs were set on the ground inside the tent, so they got pretty dusty, even though the tent itself had a solid wooden base. Maybe that could be a project for the future. Still, I had a great time on my first glamping trip and would recommend it, and go again. We stayed for two days, and both the breakfasts and dinners were excellent. We did finish off the popcorn, but that was our own fault. The onsen was a thirty-minute walk away, which was fine and well worth it.
Camping tents are available to rent, and the rest area has a nice atmosphere. For 500 yen an hour, you can have as much coffee, different teas and juice as you like. A pleasant place to relax.
The facilities are great and the staff were helpful. It’s a beautiful spot, though a little overpriced.
