Hotel New Nishida

The staff were friendly, and I had a very pleasant stay. For around 10,000 yen, a night with two meals at this business hotel felt like a real bargain. I stayed for work in Tokunoshima for one night and ate at the hotel's first-floor izakaya, "Tomono Hosaku." It was closed during my stay, though apparently sashimi is usually part of dinner. I had been hoping to try luminous clams, so that was disappointing. The building is visibly worn, and there's no large public bath. The bath in my room was spacious enough to stretch my legs and seemed very clean. Tokunoshima has lots of scenic spots I'd like to see again, so I'd definitely stay here next time I visit.

The hotel's location on Tokunoshima is great. I stayed in the new building, though the room itself felt old. Hot water took several minutes, and sometimes over 10 minutes, to come through. Having to take out my own trash was also a hassle. The road outside is narrow enough that even compact cars can't pass each other, yet there's a lot of traffic, which felt dangerous. A loose drain cover rattles loudly whenever cars go by, and it woke me in the middle of the night and early morning.

I was in Annex 401, and the washlet wasn't working. Thinking the battery might be dead, I opened the back cover and found it was leaking.

The price is reasonable, and having a supermarket nearby makes the location convenient. I booked breakfast as part of the room, and it was delicious.
