APA Hotel Akihabaraeki Denkigaiguchi

The customer service was extremely rude. The woman at the counter insisted on photocopying my passport even though I’m a Japanese resident. Train your staff!

I found the price very reasonable for just needing a hotel room. It’s within walking distance of Akihabara’s main attractions, several restaurants, and a Don Quixote that stays open 24/7 if you need anything. I had a wonderful four-day stay. The small extras, like combs, toothbrushes, pajamas, and shaving kits, meant less to pack. At 198 cm tall, I found the double beds just big enough for me.

Of the couple of APAs I’ve stayed at, this one was easily the worst. The bathroom had black mould, fixtures were coming loose, and the whole hotel felt run down. I’d recommend choosing a different APA.

This isn’t my first APA and it won’t be my last. I was traveling with my significant other, which makes the rooms feel cramped. The first room we checked into was dirty, with peanuts, food, and dirt on the floor as soon as we walked in. In the second room, there was something in the tub and water overflowed up to our ankles. It was disgusting, white, and full of hair. On the second day, a horrible, sometimes unbearable smell came from the toilet, as if the drain wasn’t working properly. The hotel was extremely hot, and we couldn’t control the temperature from the room, only at the hotel level. I was too warm and opened the window, which brought in more outside noise and the occasional smell of cigarettes. It wasn’t an enjoyable stay. If you’re okay with being cramped in a small space, paying close to nothing, and putting up with all of that, this is the place for you.
