APA Hotel Kamata Ekimae

The hotel is a small space, but the room was very well laid out. It had free movies, a big bathroom, free curry, and fast internet. My only comfort gripe was the bed, which felt a little squishy, though younger and smaller people might like it. The location itself isn’t the nicest, with lots of drunks and dirty stores, but the station is well placed for reaching Tokyo, Yokohama, and the airport. Thank you!

We paid in full through Agoda, but when our plane was late and we missed the check-in time, the hotel gave our room to someone else. They were fully booked and initially tried to get us to leave. I’d messaged customer service a few days before arrival with our expected arrival time, and thankfully they eventually had to give us a room. After a 13-hour flight and a two-hour trip from Narita airport, we waited 30 minutes. We got no compensation, just an apology and the room. Update: they didn’t actually give us a room then. I was writing this while waiting. After one hour, we were still in the lobby. They knew they couldn’t give us a room but promised one anyway and said nothing. They just wandered around as if they didn’t care. I finally went to the receptionist, who looked annoyed even though it was our first interaction, and asked her to check because we’d been waiting an hour after being told we’d get a room. She called someone, then came back to say they couldn’t give us one after all. If I hadn’t asked, we might have sat there all night. This was the worst hotel experience I’ve had. None of the staff seemed to care about customers, and they all looked like they wanted to quit and made it everyone else’s problem. I hate all of you, and I hope you all get fired.

It’s an affordable place with clean rooms and attentive room service. The location is close to Kamata station, family mart, 7-11, Donki, and lots of restaurants. The laundry unit includes detergent, and the hotel is foreigner friendly.

The staff were friendly and efficient, and helped me sort out a few things I needed. They stored my luggage when I arrived a couple of hours early, which let me go shopping, though I was disappointed they charged for early check-in. Kamata Train is a short walk away, there’s local nightlife nearby, and it’s easy to reach the bus for Haneda Airport. The rooms are tiny, and the toilet is exposed to the room in a pretty unusual layout. It’s fine for a short stay, but I probably wouldn’t choose it for a longer one.
