The Japanese style room felt spacious, and I really liked having a shoe removal area and coat rack. The bathroom and bedroom were a good size too. The futon was comfortable, the tatami mats were clean, and the heating was easy to operate. It’s in a quiet neighborhood, a block from a smaller train station. You’ll need to make a couple of connections and get used to navigating Ueno station, which you’ll likely pass through. The reception isn’t staffed all the time, so service requests may need to be left in writing at the desk. I did that once, and they handled my request well. I enjoyed my stay and would choose this hotel again.

The suite on the 5F was huge, with a king bed, sofa, dining table, tatami floor, and an extra futon nearby. The outside didn’t look like much, but the suite was sweet. They were also accommodating when checkout fell at the same time as several of my virtual business meetings. I’d highly recommend staying in the suite.

There are several inexpensive places to eat nearby. In 2023, ramen for 500 yen was a total bargain. The room can be cleaned daily, which isn’t very common in Japan, though the reception wasn’t always staffed. For a good price, this seems like a nice option if you want a traditional Japanese room in Tokyo. It’s less than a two-minute walk from Mikawashima station, but relatively far from Tokyo’s tourist spots, so you’ll probably need to change trains at Nippori or Ueno. I noticed the reception being unattended at times.

Mikawashima station is about one minute away, with Aeon, a 7 /11 convenient store, Sukiya restaurant, and a drug store close by. We spent 5 days 4 nights here, and the hotel was well located. The amenities were well provided, including a Japanese style bed (tatami) and dining table. Cleanliness was satisfactory. I’d recommend it.

For a budget stay in Tokyo, I wouldn’t hesitate to book this place. The room was bigger than the ones in other hotels I booked in Tokyo, and everything looked super clean, as if it had been recently renovated. The bed is probably the only downside, since it isn’t the largest.
