Book And Bed Tokyo Ikebukuro

The place felt peaceful as soon as I came in. It's tastefully decorated, clean, and clearly made for people who come for the bookish atmosphere as much as somewhere to sleep. The industrial fixtures, colors, and lighting all work really well. I enjoyed the comfortable open reading space and the books in different languages. It was quiet inside, with just some soft music; occasional outside noise didn't bother me. The staff speak great English, and Ikebukuro station is very close. Even the shampoo they provide smells lovely. I read Big Fish.

It's quiet at night, with a great library feel. The bookshelf bunks are a good size and come with a small safe, light, fan, and coat hangers. Most of the midday books are in Japanese, but there's enough English to find something good to read. There's no curfew, though guests are expected to keep the noise down after 12.

Sleeping in a huge bookshelf is just as cool as it sounds, and the decor and atmosphere are great. The sound, though, made it hard for me to sleep. Everyone's basically in one big room, and the sleeping nooks don't block noise at all. Free earplugs helped, but if you're a light sleeper and need an uninterrupted night, this probably isn't the place for you.

They have a wonderful, carefully chosen book collection, and the books are there to be read, so go ahead and nerd out. The hostel itself is beautiful, with a polished but slightly rebellious feel. The hosts were welcoming and liked chatting with guests, and every staff member I met spoke English very fluently. The bunks had plenty of room. It was mostly quiet, apart from a kid yelling that morning.
