Capsule Inn Kinshicho

The common area was a nice place to spend time, and I really enjoyed the onsen and the company there. My capsule was clean, and they made the sheets up nicely every day. I booked at random for a week in Tokyo and loved the whole stay. I’ll definitely return on my next visit.

The gym was the reason I booked, so I was annoyed to find it was for men only and located inside the men’s onsen and shower area. The staff kindly brought out dumbbells so I could still use them, and they were all friendly and helpful. I had a very happy stay despite missing out on the gym. The sauna area made the place special. The sauna room was impressively hot, apparently the hottest in Tokyo, and the sauna beds were cooler. There was also an onsen and a barrel of cold water. The sauna was fantastic, and hostels with onsens at a reasonable price are hard to find in Tokyo. The beds were comfortable and there was some space. The location was perfect, quiet but convenient, and the Skytree was a 20-minute walk away. I can’t bring myself to give the place a bad review.

There’s a 24-hour Lawson konbini next door, and a 24-hour Sukiya about a 10-minute walk away for a hot meal. It’s in one of Tokyo’s rougher areas, with some questionable shops outside, but I felt safe walking alone at night as a man. I can’t speak for women, though I saw plenty walking around by themselves without trouble. The place is a bit rough around the edges, but the staff are helpful and speak some English. You can use the public bath and sauna even with tattoos, which is uncommon. It’s a capsule hotel, so expect some snoring and people moving around at night. Most guests try to be quiet, and it was manageable. The dorms are separated by gender. A good budget option, highly recommended.

This was my first solo trip, and the team made it a great one. They were lovely, helped with everything, and even gave me an umbrella in the rain. Their English was good, too. The capsule was cozy and cleaned every day. The location worked really well, with buses and several train lines getting you to most major attractions with about one transfer. You can see Tokyo Skytree as soon as you step outside. They provide a toothbrush, razor, robe or nightgown, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. If you need anything else, several convenience stores, Don Quijote, and Daiso are within a five-minute walk. There’s a daily cleaning break when everyone has to leave from noon to 3 p.m. I usually went out around 10 or 11 in the morning and got back between 6 and 10 at night, so it suited me and pushed me to explore. If you want to stay inside all day, keep that in mind. It helps to follow Japanese customs: leave street shoes by the entrance, use the bathroom slippers, and observe bathing etiquette. Keep your voice down in the capsule area and be considerate of others. Light sleepers might want earplugs, available at reception. I’m so grateful to the team!
