℃ (Do-C) Gotanda

This is a nice, clean and comfortable option if you're travelling alone, especially if you'll be out all day and just need somewhere to sleep. The price seems fair for what's included. The capsule can feel a little claustrophobic, but I thought the place was great.

Getting to the men's showers was inconvenient: you have to cross the lobby and go down to the basement. Luggage stays in the lobby too, since you can't bring it upstairs. The hotel also has limited room attendance hours, and you can't take your locker key when you leave. The capsule is only about as long as someone who is 182cm, and the vent fans were broken. They didn't seem to know how to manage the HVAC. The heaters blew strongly every day, with the temperature averaging close to 28. I'd wake up feeling awful, bone-dry, sweaty and greasy, with a clammy feeling from the lack of ventilation. When it was warmer outside, they switched the HVAC to drying mode, which was hell too. I couldn't stop passing out at any time of day because of the poor ventilation. Outside at night, it felt like an episode of The Walking Dead, with everyone dressed like security at a strip club's lap-dance room. It was safe, but incredibly bizarre, and I didn't see a woman around. On my last night, a demon child came to visit someone in another pod and started talking. The other guest woke up screaming. I'm pretty sure I got kicked by a ghost a few times too.

The service was consistently friendly and helpful, and although the place is near Gotanda Station, about five minutes away, I didn't hear loud noise at night. It's in a red light district with several bars nearby, but walking around the neighbourhood was comfortable. As elsewhere in Japan, everyone was friendly and respectful, and nobody kept approaching us. The rooms were clean, tidy and quite sufficient for sleeping and resting, even if they aren't the newest. Lockers are small, so mine was fine with just a small bag, but larger suitcases and bags have to stay in the lobby.

The sleeping area was super noisy. Please be considerate, and don't pack your luggage in the capsule area when other people still need to sleep at 7am 😊 Don't blame tourists from other countries, they were just Japanese women from 53x check out on 3/8!
