I was in Tokyo for business Monday to Thursday and spent four nights at Dormy Inn EXPRESS Asakusa. With breakfast, the bill came to around JPY 66,000, which seemed reasonable for Tokyo given the location and extras. It's close to Senso-ji Temple (Asakusa Kannon Temple) and several stations on different railway lines, so getting around for work or sightseeing was easy. My room felt a little bigger than rooms at APA Hotel, a welcome difference over several nights with luggage. There are rooms facing Tokyo Skytree and others without that view. If you can, I'd pick the Skytree-facing side. The illuminated view at night gives the room a relaxing Tokyo feel after a long day. The hotel isn't fancy, but it's clean, practical, and comfortable. I liked the public bath and foot bath after walking around all day, and free ice cream after bathing was a nice touch. They also serve free late-night ramen, Yonaki soba. It tasted good, and after late meetings it saved me from going back out to find food. For the location, price, and amenities, it's good value for business travelers or tourists who don't want luxury hotel prices.

The foot bath has a great view of the golden orb and the sky tree. We paid $200 a night to see the peak cherry blossoms, which were easy to see from our second-floor room, though people in the park could see most of the room too. The room itself was tiny but efficient. It's a lively part of town, with the city's quiet thrum going until the early hours, but we slept fine. There's just one elevator, though we never waited more than 5 minutes, and one onsen that switches between male and female hours. We skipped breakfast. Compared with the other dormys we stayed at, this was less expensive and good value for a budget stay.

The city and Skytree views were superb, and the hotel had a charming, quaint, quisential feel. Reception staff varied in how warm they were, but were okay. Breakfast cost 1500Y and was classic Japanese fare with healthy choices. The smoked Eel with special rice was tasty. After a month of travel, this was the first place where we found an english-speaking channel, which was a wow. Lots of on demand movies too, a nice touch.

The location is really good, close to the main Asakusa stations, the mall, and tourist spots. We booked the big room facing the river. They let us leave our luggage while we took an overnight trip to Mt Fuji, but only because we had another booking with the hotel. The hotel is small and dated, with a very small reception and dining area. Breakfast is mostly Japanese food with limited choice, and the signature eel rice was really meh. I regretted buying a few days of breakfast as part of the package. It felt more like a business hotel, and I didn't see any kids. August 2025

The staff made me feel right at home, and my little room was cozy, clean, and comfortable after a long day. I also loved having the hot spring on site to relax in. The free midnight ramen was a fun, thoughtful surprise. Such a hidden gem, I'd recommend it.
