It’s a very short walk to the train station and shopping center, and there’s a Family Mart right on the same block. Some reviews make the nearby love hotel street sound alarming, but there’s a second connecting street you can take if you don’t want to pass the posters. We walked through at 11pm and it was just a street. Compared with an average walk through the Vegas strip, it’s far less confronting. You can’t see or hear anything inappropriate from where you’re staying.

The train station is a five-minute walk away, and having a family mart store right outside was super convenient. The rooms were clean and spacious by Tokyo standards, and the whole facility was meticulously maintained. It was great to have a kitchen and washer too. There wasn’t on-site staff or house cleaning, but that really wasn’t a problem.

The in-room laundry was wonderful, and the drying racks on the deck made it work perfectly. The room itself was nice, with some space to move around, and the small kitchen had enough for what I needed.

The beds were great, though my husband was annoyed that we had to sleep separately, and they may be too small for bigger people. There aren’t any California King or even Queen beds here. Eisei stay’s best features for us were the fridge, microwave, washer, shower, and furo. We didn’t cook, since there were only a few utensils and no spices, but honestly we didn’t need to. Ikebukuro is a great base, a little off the beaten path so it’s easier to relax away from the crowds, while still having everything nearby, including Don Quijote, conbini, cafes, and Sunshine City. I’d recommend it.

There were three beds, and the place was very good value for the price. Ikebukuro is a handy subway hub with lots of good restaurants nearby. The staff were a big help with our checkout, and the bathroom turned out better than those in some four-star hotels we stayed at later.
