We lost the room card while shopping around Ginza, where it's easy to misplace small things when you're trying clothes on. I understand a replacement should cost something, but they charged us 5000 yen, which seemed far too high. At budget hotels nearby, such as ELE Hotel Ginza East, I've seen replacement fees of about 1000-2000 yen for ordinary plastic cards. This card was just plain white plastic with a room-number sticker, too, and we'd only been given one, which was unusual compared with other hotels we've stayed at in Japan. The charge wasn't explained when we checked in. Other Japanese hotels often spell out this kind of policy, or ask guests to leave the card at reception when they go out. The whole thing felt unfair and poorly handled, and the lack of transparency made it seem unnecessarily focused on making money. Losing a card can happen, especially in a busy shopping district like Ginza. I wouldn't recommend staying here after this experience.

They charged ¥5,000 for a replacement card, despite not following the security steps that should go with replacing one. When I returned in the evening after losing my card around 7:00 AM, the desk staff gave me a card for someone else's room without checking my identity or even asking my room number. After I pointed out the number was wrong, they handed me one for the room I said was mine, again without verifying it. I also saw no sign that the lost card had been invalidated or that the access system had been updated. That's a serious failure in basic guest security. I had contacted the hotel through Agoda as soon as I lost the card, but heard nothing all day, which added needless stress. Taken together, the silence, the careless handling of room access, and the premium fee without the matching service show a troubling lack of care. These are not the standards I expect from a Tokyo hotel, whatever its tier. I can't recommend Ele Ginza Tokyo when other nearby hotels take safety and professional conduct more seriously.

The neighborhood was one of my favorite things: quiet and peaceful at night, without the crowds of shibuya. I slept well and felt safe and comfortable during my three nights here. The price was manageable for me as a solo female traveler. The room is small but workable for one person, with proper windows, a view, and lovely natural light. The bed was comfortable, the sheets felt high quality, and the room had all the amenities I needed. Although this is a 2 stars hotel, the standard felt more like 3 stars to me, so I think its Google rating underrates it. It's within walking distance of the fish market, one train station from Tokyo station, and five stops on a direct train line to Disneyland. A great stay.

The rooms are small, as you'd expect in Japan, but the price made this a pretty good stay. They supplied slippers and pajamas, and the coin laundry in the lobby has both a washer and drier. The staff also let us leave our luggage for a few hours on departure day, which was helpful. Hatchatori station is nearby, a convenient spot if you're going to the Disney parks while still wanting to be central to Tokyo. Five stars might be a little generous, but I do think the place is underrated.

Small rooms are fine by Japanese standards, but mine was a real disappointment. The bed and walls had stains all over, and under the bed there was a layer of dust about 2cm thick.
