Grand Nikko Tokyo Daiba

I spent 8 nights at Grand Nikko, and the lounge experience on my last day really capped off a stay I wouldn’t recommend at this price. I’d paid $4000, checked out, and was working in the executive lounge while waiting for my flight. I brought lunch, though you can’t order it there, and people do eat the light snacks and drinks provided. I was told to take my food outside the hotel to eat, then I could come back. Later, while I was writing this review, the lounge manager told me I couldn’t wait there for my flight unless I paid 5000 yen for every hour. I’ve never had service like this elsewhere. I’ve stayed at APA hotel, for example, and found it excellent compared with this. Not worth it, stay away. The only consistently good part was housekeeping. My room was very, very clean, and the cleaning staff deserve five stars. The other staff, including room service, spoke only about 20-30 words of English. They couldn’t answer basic questions about the menu, and the food came from the restaurant and was just as average. At the restaurant on the 30th floor, I was traveling alone for work and asked for a table. They seated me at an empty bar because I was by myself, even though it was off peak and at least 20 tables were free. That was especially upsetting. The food was very average, and easily the worst I had in Japan. The massage was okay and relaxing, but very light, so it wasn’t much of a massage. I was lucky they let me have it: there was a no-tattoo sign, but the massage therapist said she was okay with my tattoo. Tattoos also meant I couldn’t use the gym or pool. The outdoor pool is only open one month a year, so don’t count on using it. I’m a Western guest with one tattoo, and access to these amenities was a big reason I chose the hotel. The rooms are large, but the executive suite’s interior felt old, and all the furniture was scratched. I was disappointed as soon as I walked in. It’s spacious, but not luxurious, which I expected at this price.

I’ve stayed here with family, with friends and as a couple, and I come back whenever I’m in Tokyo. The rooms feel spacious, comfortable and luxurious, and the staff are professional and helpful. At breakfast, the team were especially supportive about my halal dietary needs. There are several restaurant choices, and I loved the laundry service, which returned my clothes looking brand new. The airport shuttle needs to be booked early because seats fill up fast. A Lawson next door is open 24/7, and there’s a 7-Eleven across the street.

The station is right outside, and a large mall is just across a bridge, so the area still feels lively while being away from the tourist-packed parts of town. There’s a Lawson at the entrance, which is handy for stocking up during a trip. The building and lobby are impressive, and the rooms are very comfortable. I’ve returned several times.

We had a great time here and would gladly return. The staff were lovely and helpful, and the rooms were clean and a nice size, with comfortable beds. The pillows could use replacing. We enjoyed the tea and coffee service, then had some wine. It’s close to a convenience store and within walking distance of the subway.
