We were three backpackers traveling on a budget, and the friendly staff made us feel welcome. The place has less technology, which was charming in its own way. Our Wi-Fi password and door code were handwritten on a small piece of paper, so we just took a photo of it. The beds were soft, and the pillows and blankets were comfortable. The bathroom, though, was quite small and cramped, and might feel awkward if you're tall. The location is handy, about four minutes on foot from the JR station and three minutes from a nearby convenience store. The entrance closes at 12:30 am, so it may not suit you if you want to enjoy Akihabara nightlife.

For the price, it was perfectly fine compared with what other hotels cost. We stayed three nights in a double room and don't agree with most of the bad reviews. The shower curtain had some mold, so it wasn't the cleanest place, but the host wasn't mean at all and used Google Translate to communicate with us. Our room was spacious, aside from the restroom, which is standard in Japan. It had a fridge, microwave, and kettle. The location worked well too, with Akihabara and Asakusa within walking distance and Asakusabashi station nearby for getting elsewhere.

I should've checked the Google reviews first. I was the first to arrive, but the hostess tried to help other Chinese guests before me until they pointed out that I had arrived first. Things started off badly. I tried my best with the little Mandarin I know, but she didn't seem willing to meet me halfway. I had a booking for two, but she wouldn't properly check the booking ID my friend had sent. After a few minutes of strained communication, she went to help the other two Chinese groups. Their check-ins went smoothly, with no issues. She just checked the number of guests and booking name, and suddenly everything was fine. I know the second traveler also had a friend who hadn't arrived yet, but that wasn't treated as a problem. The worst part was that I waited 20 minutes and she didn't come back. That's service for you. I ended up booking somewhere else. I'm using this review to let off steam so I don't spoil an otherwise enjoyable trip to Japan.

I paid about $700 for eight nights here. In Kyoto, I got 12 nights for about $800 or $900 at a much better place. This was one of the worst places I've ever stayed, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The room was a decent size, but the three twin beds were squeaky and so soft that our backs hurt. They looked like they were from the 80s. The bedding was threadbare and various shades of white. Everything felt dusty, dated, and frankly creepy. We arrived early and could tell the landlady had just finished cleaning. The towels were damp. The bathroom was by far the worst part. It was closet-sized, with a tub about 1.5 feet wide by 2.75 feet long, though those measurements aren't exact. I'm five feet tall, and I couldn't stand with my shoulders apart or sit with my legs flat. The pink flamingo and green jungle shower curtain looked very 90s and offered two varieties of mold: black at the top and red algae at the bottom. There was mold on the ceiling too. This may be one of the few places left in Tokyo without a bidet Toto toilet. Sitting on the toilet left about two inches between my knees and the door; the standing space, excluding the toilet and tub, was about 7 inches by 7 inches. It felt like a portapotty. The crunchy yellow plastic bathroom door didn't close properly. The room also had two dusty windows with green curtains, a small wooden desk and chair, a glass vanity and stool, a microwave, a refrigerator, a kettle that hadn't been cleaned, and three dusty hanging portraits with figures seemingly coming out of the woodwork. The neighborhood wasn't near much, and having just one train line and one bus made it hard to get around on foot. There were also only two outlets, one of them split into five. If you have to stay here, you can leave your luggage on the second floor at reception if you arrive early or check in at 3 pm. She doesn't allow early check-ins. She speaks Chinese, though we weren't Chinese. The neighborhood was noisy, with early construction, trucks revving, and screams late at night. I added these details after looking at my pictures, including photos of the reception room just outside our room, the bathroom, and the black mold. Those weren't even my clearest mold photos. I regret staying here. Choose somewhere better, since it could make or break your Tokyo trip. Feel free to fact-check my review.

The room was too small and smelled unpleasant, and the staff weren't very accommodating. The shower curtain was dirty and covered in mold, and the cups and electric kettle were dirty too. I had to wash the kettle before using it. Come here if you want to waste your money.
