We came to Hilltop Hotel for dinner at the Tempura Restaurant. Each piece of the set menu was prepared and served one at a time, just the right pace for enjoying fresh Tempura, and we absolutely loved it. The hotel staff were also very helpful, directing us to the restaurant and calling a taxi after dinner. A great hotel and restaurant overall.

Renovations have the Hilltop Hotel closed at the moment. It's a beautiful, 86-year-old hotel inspired by Art Deco, and I hope it can be restored to its glory days.

We stayed in a Japanese room for two days in June. The large room and retro Showa-period decor were nice, and the Japanese breakfast was okay, better than the Western one. Still, the place first struck me as outdated, with too little funding to keep an old hotel maintained. The coffee shop was disappointing too, with stained chairs and lukewarm coffee. For the price, I won't stay here again.

The calm, classical atmosphere makes it clear to me why so many well-known writers, novelists, and journalists are drawn here. There are restaurants inside too, including Japanese cuisine and tempura.

The staff showed excellent hospitality. There are good restaurants here for Tempra, French food, and teppanyaki. I especially liked the Tempra restaurant. I read in his books that the famous Japanese writer Ikenami went there often.
