Hotel Lumiere Kasai

One of the reception staff, the man with glasses, was so polite and helpful. He made things easier for us and kept saying arigato, which we appreciated. The other man, with no glasses and slightly reddish hair, was rude when I asked whether the guest floor toilet is usually locked. He said he didn’t know why I was asking. I also saw him chatting about people in the dining area with a woman during breakfast. His manners were very poor.

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for families with children who may need clear help. The staff had a lot of trouble speaking English, so even simple questions and requests were hard to communicate. Customer service was a very poor part of our stay and fell short of what I expected.

The room was a little bigger than at a typical Japanese business hotel, with somewhat modern decor. It’s near a metro station in a regular, non-touristy neighborhood, and there’s a direct shuttle bus to Haneda about a seven-minute walk away. The hotel also has coin laundry, but you need to buy detergent at reception, and one packet per load won’t get your clothes clean. Plan on two. The WiFi was awful, often not working at all, which is a shame in 2025. Breakfast was barely passable, so don’t rely on it, and even the coffee didn’t taste much like real coffee. Check-out at 10.00 feels ridiculous when check-in is at 15.00. There are just two elevators for 12 floors. I can only recommend staying if you’re after the lowest price and find an exceptional deal. One night should be fine.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel, since we booked it at short notice and were mainly looking for somewhere near Disneyland. Our Twin Room was clean and roomy enough for both medium-sized suitcases to be open at once. The beds were decent, a little small but not problematically so. Staff were polite, spoke English, checked us in quickly, and kept our bags for free after checkout until later that day. Breakfast was included and good, with limited variety, but at this price I was surprised it came with the stay. The location depends on your plans. For sightseeing around Tokyo, it’s out of the way, and reaching tourist spots can take about an hour with several train changes. For Disneyland, it’s a great option: a bus stop is five minutes away and the ride takes about 30 minutes. The neighborhood feels like a typical Japanese residential area rather than a tourist district, with plenty of kombinis around. For what we wanted, a decent place near Disney, the value was really good. I can’t think of any negatives.
