JR East Hotel Mets Akabane

Whenever I’m in Japan, I tend to stay with the JR East Hotel Mets chain. The prices are reasonable, and the rooms are larger than in the usual business hotels. They’re very clean and neat, with all the amenities you need. I’ll come back to the chain next time I’m in Japan.

Akabane is about 20 minutes from Tokyo, Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, and Shibuya. Hotels are cheaper here, with hundreds of restaurants around. Ito yokado is at the west exit. Great for tourists.

The staff at this location were so friendly and helpful, and I was surprised by how much there is nearby. There are shops, izakayas, and conbini stores close by, and if I hadn’t had appointments in Tokyo with friends and family, I could’ve spent my whole week exploring the area. I think I’ll stay here again in the future. I’ve stayed at Mets Mejiro a few times, and both Mejiro and Akabane are excellent. With a JR station right next door, it’s hard to get more convenient. It’s a Japanese brand in Japan, so Western visitors shouldn’t expect the usual 350 to 400 sq feet rooms or huge bathrooms. The rooms are functional, though, and depending on your size, a regular unit can fit one person or at most two. I’d recommend bringing no more than two large suitcases, or you’ll regret it.

There’s self-service laundry here, and the room was pretty spacious for a Japanese hotel. We had a good stay at Hotel Mets Akabane, with a fair price. The AC started leaking on our first day, but staff responded quickly and sorted it out.
