J Hotel Tokyo Geo

From check-in on, it felt like they kept trying to get more money from us. First they pointed out that our room was small and offered an upgrade for 9,900 yen per night. I declined. Then they asked if the 10:00 AM checkout was too early. I said it was a little, so they offered 11:00 AM for 2,200 yen. I turned that down too, and they warned that even a one-minute delay would cost 3,300 yen. I said I wouldn't be late. They also asked about housekeeping. Since it was part of my plan, I asked them to clean. The staff looked unhappy and said we'd have to be out of the room from 10:00 to 17:00, and couldn't come back even just to drop something off. I reluctantly said to skip cleaning and asked what we should do with the trash. They told us to leave it outside and said they'd give us replacement trash bags, but they never did. We had to go to reception every day to ask. At 9:50 on checkout day, I asked if we could store our luggage. They quoted 5,500 yen per item per hour, then told us we could leave it in the room for just ten more minutes before taking it with us. If they don't offer luggage storage, they could simply say so. The way they handled it felt like a game, and I felt completely disrespected as a guest. It was outrageous how money-focused the whole stay felt. I won't stay at this hotel or any of its group hotels again.

The rooms were clean and practical, the bathrooms were tidy, and the beds were comfortable. There was everything I needed, even a USB port by the headboard. The hotel's location was excellent for walking to Tokyo Station, Kanda, Mitsukoshimae, and Nihonbashi. The staff were friendly and professional. I could leave my luggage before check-in, and it was already in my room when I arrived. They explained the facilities thoroughly and responded quickly when I had plumbing issues. They also kindly lent me an umbrella on a rainy day. J Hotel Tokyo was a great stay, and I'd happily return on my next trip to Tokyo. Thanks for the hospitality.

Our main issue was the highway beside the hotel. Traffic noise might bother light sleepers, though earplugs we brought worked for us. We booked a short-stay package, checking in from 10pm and leaving by 9am. No one told us there was a ¥3300 charge for any lateness. I handed back the key cards at 9:08am and was immediately asked to pay. I was surprised and offered ¥1000 for the inconvenience, but they said they'd call the police if I didn't pay the fee. Watch the checkout time closely or be prepared for the charge. I couldn't find anything about it in the Rakuten travel terms and conditions. We left with a very unpleasant impression.
