Minn Asakusa

One of our two rooms was very dirty when we checked in this afternoon. We’re currently here with six people, and this is our third hotel this week after Monday Damion and Tokyu Stay in Kyoto. The location is great, but the toilet seat had dried stains, there were clumps of hair on the floor, and later we noticed black mould in the vent. There was nobody at the desk. I left a message on the chat line and got no reply. The email chat link took me to the main floor, where the virtual concierge was difficult to see or hear. The virtual support and chat didn’t share information, which was frustrating because neither seemed to know what had been said to the other. The attendant who came to inspect was very nice. She thanked me for cleaning the toilet and floor, and said she’d need strong chemicals for the mould. We weren’t offered another room or somewhere to stay during that work. Luckily, we had a second room with hardwood floors and no mould that we could see, which might explain the inconsistent cleaning reviews. This isn’t an inexpensive hotel. Save yourself the hassle and book somewhere else. This experience has been completely different from our stays so far.

The tablet at the front desk was the only way to reach online staff, which felt impersonal. The Wi-Fi didn’t work at all, and even going downstairs to contact the front desk didn’t get it fixed. The room’s environment and cleanliness also need improvement. I stayed three nights and didn’t have a very good experience, despite the convenient location within walking distance of Sensoji Temple and near a subway station.

Self check-in and checkout were easy, and everything listed on the website was there. The room was a decent size for Tokyo, and it’s one station from Skytree, or about a 15-minute walk. There were marks, stains, and dents in the room. The bedding wasn’t quite a futon as advertised, just a very thin mattress. Hygiene was a concern too: stains on the mattress cover, a smelly pillow, and mould in the washing machine, among other things. Cleaning was only available for stays longer than seven days. We knew it wouldn’t have the services or amenities of a hotel, but the price was close to what a hotel would charge.

It was a spacious, pleasant place to stay, and the surroundings felt quiet and safe despite being near the station. The extra towels I asked for arrived very quickly.
