Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho

The staff at Moxy Tokyo Kinshicho were welcoming, helpful and friendly. Sato-san especially recommended a local ramen shop and went out of his way to find a solution to an issue we were thinking through. The hotel itself is newer, modern and clean. The room was small but functional and nicely appointed. There are a couple of red-light-district-type outlets two streets away, but the hotel is close to a subway station served by both the JR Line and Hanzomon subway line. Tokyo Skytree is within walking distance, too. For the price, it was good value, about half what similar hotels in Shibuya, Shinjuku and Ginza cost.

I liked having a reasonably nice lobby to hang out in. It was busy, and as a solo traveller there were people to talk to. The rooms were nice, the service was good, and the staff were friendly. I also liked how clean the room was. The breakfast really missed the mark for me. It was very American, while a traditional Japanese breakfast is one of my favourite things about Japan. The hotel didn’t remind me of other Japanese hotels and felt out of place with the local vibe. The location was only okay, but the subway makes anywhere in Tokyo accessible. Next time I’ll probably stay somewhere more local to Tokyo or near shinigawa station.

The room had some useful extras: a purified water dispenser, hairdryer and electric kettle. The sockets worked with multiple plug types, so I didn’t need a Japan adapter, and there was one USB-C port and two USB-A ports as well. It’s about a 10-minute walk to a major bus and subway station, which made getting around easy. I felt completely safe during my stay, though I’ve never felt unsafe anywhere in Japan. The hotel was spotless, and the staff were incredibly kind and friendly. Thanks to the Moxy Crew for making us comfortable!

The staff were all really kind and clearly take pride in giving guests a great experience. As a Platinum Elite member, I appreciated receiving benefits. After two nights at Moxy Tokyo, I’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for a budget-friendly hotel in Tokyo that’s safe and clean. I only wish it were a little closer to the train or subway station. On the walk back at night, you do pass a lot of “girls bars”.
