Okachimachi Urban Hotel

For our second time in Tokyo, we stayed in the okachimachi/ueno area and found this hotel to be an unbelievably good mid-range option. It's near several train lines, including the ginza and yamanote line, within walking distance of akihabara, and close to some great restaurants. The staff were the friendliest and most helpful I've come across at any hotel while traveling. Other places haven't been bad, but the people here really go above and beyond. The price is exceptional for the quality, and I'd stay here again without hesitation.

The beds were firm, which was great for my back, and the service was exceptional. There was a wonderful, upbeat man at the front desk who made our stay special. I looked forward to seeing him each day as we went to and from our room. The room had everything we needed, including a yukata (robe), uwabaki (slippers), and a mini fridge. There are washers, dryers, and a vending machine on the first floor. You can also ask the front desk for an iron or other amenities. Such a fun hotel, and in an amazing location.

I’ve stayed here around 3-4 times and have always been satisfied. The room is good enough for the price, and the hotel is very close to a station on the Ginza line, with Ueno and Keisei Ueno within walking distance. One of the male receptionists is exceptional. It’s nice to feel welcome as a foreigner and be greeted with a smile for a change. I often visit Tokyo and have tried several cheaper hotels near Ueno, Akihabara, and Asakusa. I think this may be the best low-cost option in the area.

Even when the hotel was fully booked, it was mostly quiet, and the check-in and checkout were simple. The room had enough space for two, but the bathroom was tiny, one of the smallest I've seen in Tokyo. I'm tall, so it was a challenge. They’re generous with the amenities, though, and I liked the hotel. Simple and just right. The location is superb, with Ueno Park, ameyoko, and akihabara all walkable, plus lots of conbini around.
