We used the hotel as our base for two weeks in Tokyo, and it suited us well. The rooms are tiny, almost like sleeping on a cruise ship, but cleverly laid out: each has a bunk with a twin bed above a full. The lower bed fit two of us, and we kept our clothes and shopping on the top bunk. The bed came with a long pillow filled with little plastic balls. There’s a pillow selection downstairs by the elevator, where I found a fluffy one to layer on top of it. Pajamas are available to borrow too, along with a range of toiletries. Try the sleep supplements, they’re amazing. The breakfast buffet was good at first, though it got repetitive over two weeks. Getting around was easy enough. Aomono-Yokocho station is a few minutes away on foot, and Seaside Station is about a ten-minute walk. There’s a fantastic Aeon grocery store near Seaside for cosmetics, snacks, and meals. The hotel also smelled lovely, from the onsen to the rooms, probably thanks to the soap used in the bath. Between Google Translate and the staff’s limited English, we managed just fine. We’d definitely choose it again if we came back to Tokyo.
We spent nine nights here, with four more nights in nearby towns during our trip. While we were away, the hotel kept our large bags overnight for 1000 yen per bag, per night, which was very handy. The onsen was rarely busy, and we used it after long days exploring Tokyo and the surrounding towns. Breakfast had plenty to choose from, including pastries, rice, miso soup, eggs, natto, and salad. The staff were kind and helpful. Miyama San checked us in and seemed to be there every morning and evening, though I’m not sure when he takes a break. We flew into Haneda Airport, and the hotel was just a few stops away. The rooms are small, as others have said, but that was the main drawback for us. Restaurants are a few minutes’ walk along the main streets, and there’s a very large Aeon grocery and department store by Seaside station. The hotel met all our expectations.
I wouldn’t recommend Super Hotel Shinagawa Aomonoyokocho. My husband and I stayed in several Japanese hotels on this trip, in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya, and Kawaguchiko, and I’m comparing this one with places in a similar price range in Japan, not with hotels elsewhere. The room was small, as the others were, but those had layouts that left enough space for a 23kg suitcase. Here, our luggage had to sit behind the room door, so it got hit by the room or bathroom door whenever we opened one. The bed wasn’t comfortable, and neither the pillow nor comforter was good. There was no duvet, just a sheet placed under the comforter. They do put extra pillows in the lobby in case you don’t like the one provided. The hallways and elevator had no ventilation, so it felt very hot and hard to breathe outside the room. There was only one elevator, it stopped on every floor, and it was always full. Breakfast was good, but if you got there after 8:30 am, everything was gone, and they wouldn’t charge you. We didn’t have a good experience here.
The rooms are small, but clean and have what you need. The hotel is a little outside the centre, though it’s a very short walk to the subway and there’s a direct train route to both Narita and Hanida airports. There are some nice local shops and restaurants too. It’s inexpensive, with a few more luxurious touches like the hot springs pool, a daily choice of beauty products, and different pillows to choose from. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
We stopped here for an overnight layover. It’s about a ten-minute walk from Amona station and roughly 30 minutes from Haneda airport. The rooms are very small, but the public bath stays open late and was clean and refreshing, with separate areas for men and women. Breakfast is included and was decent. There are plenty of places to eat nearby that stay open until 11pm.
