The room and bathroom were clean and nice, though both felt smaller than I was ready for. Staff greeted me warmly each time, and at check-in they gave me a welcome drink plus useful extras like pajamas, a choice of pillows, and creams and lotions. For one or two nights, it’s a great, very affordable place to stay. If I needed more than three nights, I’d probably look for somewhere roomier.

The reception lady was amazing and did everything she could to help me. The hotel is also conveniently located if you’re arriving from Haneda airport, and I spent two nights there. There’s a busy 8 lanes street right outside, and the room windows barely blocked the noise. Without earplugs, sleeping was tough. The room was small, especially the bathtub, though that’s what I expected in Tokyo. Breakfast leaned heavily toward tourists, with only Western dishes, though at least the food was healthy. The payment machines wouldn’t take my credit card, even though it worked at every other Tokyo hotel. That was inconvenient.

Getting to Hamamatsucho Station is an easy short walk, and it’s on the Yamanote line and the monorail’s last stop on the way to Haneda Airport. But I wouldn’t risk staying here again. If breathing problems are an issue for you, I’d suggest choosing another hotel. I was booked for over a week. In room 311, the bathroom door came off its hinge, then they repaired it right away. After releasing the bathwater, though, the bathroom floor flooded. The shower curtain smelled bad, and after midnight I could hear noise and smell cigarette smoke from the street below. I asked to move and was put in a smaller room on the ninth floor the next day. The curtain had the same bad smell there, with cigarette smoke and an added odor from the clothes drying machine. I couldn’t close the window and run the air conditioner either, because the A/C air smelled bad. There must be a room without these issues, but I wouldn’t take the chance again.

After a couple of weeks traveling around Japan and staying in similarly priced 3 Star hotels through booking.com, I can say SHTH was the best of the bunch. The location, room quality, toiletries, hygiene, attention to detail, and value were all excellent. APA and Toyoko don't come close by comparison. This was the first hotel I carefully picked for my Japan trip.

The room was clean and had amenities, and the subway connection was good. Still, I didn’t like my three-night stay. The room and bathroom were extremely small compared with other hotels I used in Japan, service wasn’t good, and the receptionist didn’t know basic English. The area wasn’t lively and there were no restaurants nearby. It might work for one night or if you’re traveling with very little luggage.
