Tokyo Ueno Youth Hostel

We had a good room for four, and the laundry and kitchen areas were handy to have in the hotel. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The neighborhood felt quiet and safe, while the nearby stations made getting around really easy. Good value, especially with Tokyo prices being so high.

We took a six-bed room. It was a little small, as mentioned, but still enough space, and the curtains around each bed gave us some welcome privacy. The staff were friendly, welcoming, spoke English very well, and were available at any hour to help with whatever we needed. It’s budget-friendly, and the location worked well for getting around by public transport, including to Asakusa and Tokyo Station. The neighborhood itself was quieter, while busy nightlife and daytime markets were still a short walk away. I’d definitely recommend staying here in Tokyo.

We stayed in a private room, and I noticed families there too, so it seems suitable for more than just backpackers. The shared kitchen is on the lobby floor, and there’s complimentary tea and coffee. The staff were very helpful, and they let us leave our luggage before check-in. The sofa bed was comfortable enough, but the bunk bed mattress was too thin. I also wish there’d been a small dim bedside light. The price was reasonable, and the neighborhood was quiet while still being close to shops and train stations. It’s a little on the edge of the busy area, which gave it some peace. The Keisei Skyliner station is nearby too, handy if you’re going to or from Narita.

The private bathrooms in the rooms were clean, and reception staff were friendly and quite fluent in English. They provide water, plus complimentary tea and coffee. The upper bunks can feel a bit stuffy.
