Toyoko Inn Nihombashi Bakurocho

I found Toyoko at the last minute, and now I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in Japan. The building was tidy, the staff were helpful, and my single room and bathroom were clean and comfortable with plenty of space for one person. The breakfast buffet was included and delicious. For the price, it was unbelievable value. Highly recommend!

The heating barely warmed the room, even with the heater turned up. Some staff interactions were also frustrating. When I spoke English, the service suddenly felt very businesslike; sometimes they didn’t seem to listen and just talked at me. When I needed an answer, especially about what sounded like rules or precautions, they would suddenly speak very fast in Japanese without looking at me, almost like a theatrical monologue. At least it’s a clean business hotel, if you can put up with the cold and don’t need to talk much with the staff.

I’m a fan of this hotel chain and a member, but the room at Bakurocho was smaller than at other branches and the pillow was quite flat. The location is great, and the hotel is easy to get to.

I’ve stayed at many Toyoko-inn branches and am a member, but this is my first time writing a review. I regret booking five nights here. The location is good, near two metro stations, and the room cleaner worked hard. But the standard-plan bed was too small for a comfortable sleep, and the pillow was flat and easy to squash. There are only two washing machines and two dryers for all the guests, even though the hotel is busy. Also, the elevator doesn’t need a room key, so anyone can go up and down.
