We gave up on the booking and chose an APA Hotel for peace of mind. We didn’t trust the host anymore and worried the lockbox might not work if we went there. We had to cancel without a refund. We booked two nights through Airbnb. The check-in instructions and lockbox code were meant to arrive two days ahead, but they didn’t. After repeated follow-ups, the host said the day before that they’d send them by noon on check-in day. Nothing came. We followed up at noon, 1 p.m., and later, after checking out of our previous hotel and having nowhere to go with all our bags. We wondered if we’d been scammed. At 3:30 p.m. we complained to Airbnb that the host wasn’t responding. The host finally replied after a while, with no apology, and sent the instructions just two minutes before check-in. The poor communication made our Tokyo trip a hassle. Book at your own risk.

I checked as instructed, but there was no key in the mailbox, so I was left waiting for about 30 minutes. I eventually got in using the electronic lock code, but they didn’t respond to my inquiry until I called. The room was just barely acceptable. The toilet door was still broken, and the bedroom tatami was sunken enough that I nearly tripped. There was some hair in the shower, which felt unpleasant. I wish they’d cleaned more carefully.
