Hotel Sugita

Our whole family loved The Hotel Sugita. The Japanese-style room was tasteful, and the tatami mats were fantastic. The large public bath on the first floor was clean and spacious. A comfortable, elegant hotel.

In the city centre, this Japanese-style ryokan is very affordable. The rooms are clean, the large public bath is wonderfully relaxing, and breakfast comes in a generous amount. Highly recommended.

The staff made this place special, especially the very kind gentleman at reception. The rooms are cosy, the onsen is just the right temperature, and breakfast is delicious. I’d recommend it to anyone visiting Tomakomai.

We stayed here as a base for exploring the area, and it worked perfectly. It’s very convenient, with plenty of restaurants within walking distance and a convenience store nearby. We booked six nights, then added one more, which I think is longer than most people stay. The price was very reasonable for what we got, and it felt like a home away from home. I can see why guests come back. The place is pretty humble. Our room was 7 1/2 tatami, a little small for a longer stay, but we made it work. It had a good little fridge, kettle, glasses, tea cups, coffee mugs, and tea and coffee bags. There was a toilet and hand basin in the room, but no bath, so we used the public bath on the first floor. The women’s bath is small, with three washing places, one tub, and no outdoor bath. The men’s bath is bigger and has a sauna. Everything was spotlessly clean, and the bath was always hot. The hotel seemed busy, though I often had the bath to myself. We could usually park right at the front door. The counter staff were wonderful, always helpful and friendly; the cleaning staff were lovely too. We got fresh towels and room cleaning every day. We only ate at the hotel once, dinner on our last night. It was tasty, varied, warm, and homey, like a special meal your mother might make. We were very happy with it.
