Suigetsurou Hotel

Yakumo-chan, the mascot dog, is clever and friendly, and having a dog run and parking right beside the hotel is really handy when you're traveling with a dog. The location also makes it easy to get to Himi and Toyama City for free, so I'd recommend it for a Toyama trip with a dog. This was my second stay here with my dog. The building is old, though the renovated rooms are comfortable and have Simmons beds. On my first visit I only had breakfast, and liked the food and variety enough to book both breakfast and dinner this time. The meals were delicious and carefully made with local ingredients.

We appreciated how considerate the staff were toward our dog during the stay. The bath was clean, roomy, and comfortable, and the inn has been renovated to welcome guests with dogs. Still, voices and other sounds from the next room carried through, so we had to be very careful because our dog barks at the slightest noise. I think it would suit dogs that behave calmly. It felt a little expensive compared with other inns, and my husband thought the food portions weren't enough.

We enjoyed Toyama's firefly squid and white shrimp, and there was a good range of tasty dishes. The renovated rooms were clean, though you have to sit on the floor itself. Cushions are provided, but depending on the season that might not be comfortable. It's a hotel exclusively for dogs. The bath was small, and I was disappointed that it wasn't a hot spring.

The room had a bathroom that was nicer than average, and there was also a private bath you could reserve. Just keep in mind there isn't a large public bath, and it's not a hot spring. Dinner was especially good, mostly beef and sashimi, with melon for dessert. There's a gravel dog run too, though it isn't grass.
