Albis, the inexpensive supermarket next door, made it easy to get groceries. There's no convenience store, and the supermarket closes at 9:00 PM. Parking was free right in front of the hotel. The dining hall is in a separate building, so the reception desk seemed unattended, but the landlady was there when I went over. It had a guesthouse feel, and I changed into slippers to check in. The room was quite small, with just a bed and hallway and no desk. The TV was about 19 inches, pretty small. I'd read that there might not be an outlet beside the pillow, but they provided an extension cord. It's a non-smoking room, though there was a cigarette smell from somewhere. The Wi-Fi seemed to connect automatically. Instead of a unit bath, the dressing room had the toilet and sink, with a separate bathroom and wash area. I could stretch my legs out in the bath.
If you're used to national business hotel chains like Toyoko or Apa, staying here may be hard to bear. Unless you have a very good reason, I'd recommend going to Toyama Station.
The room felt old-fashioned and dated, but it was a bit larger and more comfortable than today's business hotels. I liked the manga on each floor, the smoking area on the balcony, the coin-operated laundry, and that fragrant Showa era feel. I came to Toyama during Golden Week to visit my college-aged daughter. Hotels near the station were too expensive, so I looked around and found this proper business hotel. Breakfast was included the next morning. It was simple, rice topped with raw egg, seasoned seaweed, miso soup, and pickles, but I appreciated having it free and ready.
I was glad to find a separate bathroom and toilet, which was different from the booking site's photos. The interior seems to have been renovated recently. The bathtub is big enough to stretch out in, with a separate washing area, and the new toilet has a bidet. My only gripe is that there aren't many power outlets, so bring an extension cord if you want to use your phone in bed.
Breakfast is included and the price is hard to beat. There's no Wi-Fi or washlet, which is a downside. I wouldn't stay here for business near Toyama Station, but I'd definitely come back if I had something to do farther south.
