Toyama Manten Hotel

I was really disappointed to find that the lovely city view, sauna, and three kinds of baths shown in the photos are available only on the men’s side.

The rooms are spacious, and the staff are warm and friendly. My main issue was the air conditioning, which can’t really be adjusted. On a hot spring day it was tough, and opening the window was the only solution. The hotel is a bit of a walk from the station, but right by the matsukawa river sakura, so it’s perfectly placed in spring. There’s also an amazing onsen at the top of the building, with a regular bath, jacuzzi style baths including an open air one, and a sauna.

The large public bath on the top floor was so relaxing. They sell a cup of beer for 300 yen at the entrance, which felt like a great deal. Staff and room were nice, and having outlets beside the bed was handy. The map estimates a 15 minute walk from Toyama station, but it felt shorter, and you can get there by following the tram.

This is a no frills place that works for a business trip or travel on an average budget. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the room is typical Japanese size, with the amenities you need. Women can use a small Japanese bath on the 11th floor for a soak, though you need to know the rules before going in. The part I liked most was the local Japanese buffet: plenty of variety, well cooked, and very enjoyable.
