Toyoko Inn Jr. Toyama Ekimae

I stayed overnight before visiting Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route the next morning. Toyama station is right across the street, which is handy for an early train, and there are convenience stores, restaurants, and the station shopping mall nearby. The staff made a great impression. They speak English very well, were eager to help, and made everyone feel welcome. Check-in and checkout through the machines were efficient. The room was better than I expected, fairly new looking, and larger than I’d expect at this price in a major city. The finish was acceptable. My one suggestion would be softer mattresses. I’d be happy to stay here again.

Everything seemed fine until checkout, when the employees’ behavior wasn’t good. They were focused on getting our luggage out of the space, and didn’t help when we were struggling to book a cab to the airport. We asked for packed breakfast early because we were leaving at 5 a.m., but they refused that too.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and let us leave our luggage at reception. But the bed and pillow were extremely hard, almost like lying on the floor, and we had trouble sleeping.

The bed was awful, honestly better to sleep on the floor. When I realized my night and back were going to be ruined, I started crying. I couldn’t find another hotel for the night. A hotel is meant for sleeping, so I really don’t understand putting beds this terrible in the rooms. We’ve been traveling for almost two months, and this is definitely the worst hotel we’ve stayed in so far.
