Toyama Chitetsu Hotel

You can hardly get more convenient: the hotel sits above the regional train station and right beside the Shinkansen station. The room and bathroom were both spacious, and there’s a laundry room on the fifth floor. It was quiet, too. Great hotel.

Breakfast is a nice chance to try local dishes, including masu no sushi, buri daikon, and hotaru-ika okizuke. I’ve also heard Toyama Prefecture’s rice is considered especially delicious in Japan. The hotel is right by the station, and while my room was a little narrow, it was clean and comfortable. There’s also a coffee machine near reception that guests can use for free.

The room was clean and nicely put together, and our triple room felt comfortable. It wasn’t huge, but the size seemed fair given how close the hotel is to the station. The lobby has a lounge with free coffee, and there’s an unusually broad selection of equipment you can borrow. It’s an easy, pleasant walk from the station.

The room got uncomfortably hot and stuffy even though it was cold outside. The air conditioning was controlled centrally, so the room controls didn’t help, but staff brought me an electric fan and that made it comfortable. The staff were all great, and breakfast was above average, with a wide selection and everything cooked well. The location is exceptionally handy for local trains to Tateyama and Kurobe, the Shinkansen, regional lines, trams and light rail, and local and long distance buses. Overseas visitors can get two free tram or light rail tickets by asking at the front desk.
