Tateyama Kokusai Hotel

The information on the hotel's website wasn't right, and the service was terrible. No one speaks English. I chose this hotel because I trusted the website's description of transportation from Osaka airport. The trip wasn't too far, I thought, but once I got to Toyama I realized it had taken nine hours, not four. The hotel was also supposed to pick me up at Toyama station, which the website says can be arranged by reservation. No one was there, and no one came. I attached photos so other people wouldn't end up as disappointed as I was. It was freezing, and I had to wait an hour for the train that would take me to the hotel. This was painful.

A resort hot spring with facilities, plus a small convenience area.

The onsen was pleasant, but the hotel itself is huge, run down, and isolated. One staff member spoke some English and was helpful. Since we weren't on a group tour, there was no dinner available for us. Luckily, we asked about it when they picked us up at the train station, so we could stop at the convenience store for instant noodles and other things. It wasn't what we wanted. Apart from the onsen, I'd rather stay in Toyama and catch an early morning train.

The room was clean, and the traditional Japanese dinner set was great. The public onsen was nice too, with a mountain view from the window while soaking in the hot bath. Staff were very helpful, especially Mr. Ken. Tateyama station is only about a five-minute drive, and the hotel runs a shuttle there and back. I'll definitely come back!
