We cancelled our stay after being asked to pay ¥10,000 to check in at 5.20pm instead of 6pm, when the room for the night was only ¥20,000. The reception looked seedy, and this didn’t feel like a place for couples or families.
I was looking forward to the open-air bath, so finding it dirty was disappointing. The previous guest's lotion was still there, and something like sand had collected in the tub. The whole bath area needed cleaning.
The drawers by the bed were dusty and moldy, maybe because nobody uses them. The sofa was broken and really uncomfortable, and turning the shower temperature control took a lot of force. For a room like this, I have to wonder whether 12,000 yen is fair.
The construction started rumbling through the room at 9am, despite the notice only warning of possible noise. It was loud enough to make sleeping impossible. Even with the TV on, I couldn’t hear it, and it was the first TV I’d seen that I couldn’t turn up loud enough. The screen was about the size of a home TV, but it was mounted in an awkward spot, hard to watch from either the sofa or bed. The VIP room I booked was disappointing in size and feel. At first they showed me the wrong room, and I had to check with reception before they moved me. I’d been looking forward to it, but once I got there, it just seemed ordinary. There was an outdoor bath, but that was all that stood out. Photos had given me a different impression, and everything felt dated. The cleanliness was the biggest problem. I’d seen the guest reviews on the official website mentioning cleaning, but the hotel's replies promised to review the work and instruct the cleaning staff. I believed them and tried staying there, but it felt like excuses. The room was dusty all over. The glass display case above the bed, full of ornaments, had dust and debris inside. The DVD deck I brought was dusty too. Bottles of skincare products in the bathroom were covered in dust, and one had hair caught in it even though I hadn’t used it. Near the hair dryer, a white curling iron had brown grime on its handle. I thought it might be impossible to get off, but a light rub with my fingernail removed it easily. It was horrifying. I appreciated the water server, but the tray for the paper cups was dusty too, and I didn't want to use the cups. The outdoor bath had trash in it, which I could flush away, but its shower was several meters off, so the hot water didn’t reach the tub. I couldn’t figure out how I was meant to rinse it and get in. I don’t know if there are many bugs around the hotel or if they came up through the drains, but bugs, including some big ones, were floating in the indoor bath. I scooped them out with a washbasin, then more appeared after a while. That really brought my mood down. The VIP rooms can cost as much as 30,000 yen on weekends, so the poor cleaning at those prices left me feeling the hotel was making a fool of its customers. They advertise thorough infection-control measures, but with cleaning this bad, it’s hard to believe they’re handling infection control properly. The hotel being old can’t be helped, but a thorough cleaning would make a real difference. This goes beyond infection control, though. Why not clean the place more thoroughly? The first room mix-up dampened my excitement, and the stay only got worse. I was dissatisfied with a hotel for the first time in a long while. I won’t stay here again, and I don’t want to use any K's group hotels.
Room 508 was awful. The bathroom smelled of urine, with dried urine stains on the floor and the edge of the bathtub. On the other side of the tub, there was a toothbrush that looked used, and its toothpaste was open. I’ve stayed here from time to time and noticed questionable cleaning before, but used to accept it as normal. This time was too much. Other reviews say the place is awful and dirty, and I agree. The price isn’t cheap for such sloppy cleaning. I’ll never stay here again, and I’d tell anyone reading this to avoid it. I wouldn’t give it even one star, maybe a negative rating.
