Shiosai

We went to Toya Observatory Point, about a 15-minute drive away, and found the hotel convenient for getting there. The restaurant has a varied menu at reasonable prices, with one of those ticket vending machines for ordering. We also saw plenty of locals there, which reassured us about the quality and value. The room’s design is simple, so have a look at the pictures first, though that shouldn’t put you off. We had a lovely sea view and slept with the windows open, enjoying the sound of the waves. I can’t comment on the air conditioning because we didn’t use it. The service and cleanliness impressed me during our May 2025 stay. The bath was spacious, nicely designed, and looked out over the ocean. The water’s mineral quality was excellent. Take a moment to see the owner’s distinctive stamp and seashell collection. The stamps have shell motifs and are displayed with the real shells.

A really cool onsen right by the ocean, with excellent facilities and friendly staff. The price was very cheap.

Getting around by public transport in this area is terrible, so driving here is the better option. The room was spacious with an ocean view, and the onsen was very large and affordable.

I went to the onsen twice a week for a year, though I never booked a room at Shiosai. The pools are lovely, with a good range of sizes and types: a cozy outdoor pool, a sauna, a cold pool, two or three hot pools, and one bubble pool. It’s very kid friendly, too. A child’s ticket is only 200 yen, and adults pay 600 yen, with a discount once a month. There’s an outstanding restaurant, a cute gift shop, a resting area, and an ice cream shop. The staff are so lovely. If you’re in Toyoura, I truly recommend visiting this onsen. You won’t regret it!
