Hisai Green Hotel

The rooms are clean and roomy, though the hotel itself feels old.

A nice place to stay, with good service.

Breakfast was the highlight for me. For 390 yen, it was good quality, and the ochazuke was especially tasty. There wasn’t a huge selection, which suited me fine. I’d rather have a few well-made options than dozens of things, and the quality here made the price hard to believe. The train tracks are right nearby, but the double-glazed windows kept the noise out and seemed to insulate the room well. The facilities are a little old, though well maintained, and I didn’t find them uncomfortable. The room’s wall vents connect to central heating rather than individual air conditioning. It kept me warm in the middle of winter, and the simple off, low, medium, and high settings made temperature control easy. There’s also an extractor fan, which smokers may appreciate. For the price, the facilities were adequate and the service was excellent. The all-you-can-drink freshly ground coffee was a nice extra.

The breakfast was delicious, the hotel clerk was kind, and I could see the Firebird, so there were enjoyable parts to the stay. Still, I left unsatisfied. The room was dark and small, with a small TV and bed, and the hallway was noisy. The shower took a long time to get hot. The toilet was an old, non-heated type with a seat that felt too small when I sat down. There was parking, but EVs weren’t allowed, and there was nothing nearby. Is the Self-Defense Forces on vacation? Maybe they chose a more reasonable option instead of improving the quality, but I wasn’t impressed.
