Atsumionsen is such a pretty little village along the Atsumi river, peaceful and surrounded by green mountains. This is the best onsen hotel I've ever visited.

An old and very senior Japanese business friend recommended that I stay here. The staff were polite and so helpful, and the food was superb. In a pretty crazy world, it was a beautiful chance to take a break. Strongly recommended.

The staff were courteous throughout and comfortable speaking English, though having Google Translate handy could help. Our family had a wonderful, relaxing stay, and the food was outstanding. I have lived in Japan for a few years, but the chef impressed me enough that I ate dishes I don't usually like, including crab. They also took COVID precautions seriously and kept diners spaced apart. The onsen were spacious and very relaxing. I especially liked the outdoor one on the first floor, though each had its own appeal. When heavy snow led to local train cancellations, Atsumi Onsen Mangokuya arranged a direct minivan ride for my family all the way to Niigata station. It took 2.5 hours through the snow, cost us nothing, and they managed to provide both a toddler seat and a baby seat at short notice. It was an unusual situation because of the incoming snow, but I'm grateful for how the staff made the rest of our journey worry-free. Our driver, Sasaki-san, was courteous, professional, and drove safely. I can't recommend this ryokan enough.

The rooms were comfortable, and some had private baths. The onsen was clean and comfortable too. This is one of the finest Japanese-style hotels I've stayed in, with service that was first class. I'd gladly recommend it to anyone wanting to experience Tohoku hospitality.
