That view is astounding, and Kamo Aquarium is nearby. We weren’t expecting much, but ended up loving this hotel. The room was spacious, with tatami mats alongside Western beds, and really comfortable. There’s beautiful art and craftwork to look at in the lobby. Dinner came as a set meal, while breakfast was a lavish buffet. The staff were amazing and the food incredible. I can’t recommend Hotel Yaotome highly enough. I just wish Google would list it under the right name.

Getting here takes a bit longer, but the extra trip is well worth it. Every room has a great ocean view, and the older hotel is very well maintained. We had a comfortable room, a lovely washoku kaiseki dinner, and enjoyed the onsen baths with their open view of the ocean. Take a walk out to the island and around Yura’s small fishing village, too.

Bring your own car if you can. Public transport is available, but it may be limited. If you come by train, get off at Sanzen and take a taxi; there’s a taxi stand nearby. The walk to Hakusan (Hakusan) Island takes about 15 minutes, and a lovely red bridge connects it to the mainland. Yaotome sits in a quiet, remote fishing village with beautiful scenery. We had an excellent stay, with super friendly staff, delicious dinner, and an amazing ocean view from our room.
