Hostel Mog

We stayed here for my son's rugby training camp and would come back. The staff made us feel very welcome, and the food was delicious. Inside, the place is really stylish, quite a contrast with the exterior.

The restaurant's hamburger and spice curry were both delicious. Toothpaste isn't supplied, so bring some or pick it up at the drugstore about a two-minute walk away. I stayed here with my child, and the staff were so kind. They switched on the garden lights while I filmed a video and kept an eye on my child while I had a bath. From the outside the hostel is easy to miss, but inside it's clean and stylish. Thank you!

The shower room was clean, and the towels were big and thick. There's a restaurant to the right of the entrance that looked good, and now I'm curious to try it. This was my first stay at a hostel in Ueda, where dorm beds seem to cost around 4,000 yen, which feels fairly expensive compared with places like Tokyo. Mog's setup was much more comfortable than a usual youth hostel, though. The bed felt like a little private room, with about 30 cm beside the mattress for a bag. The men's and women's shared space might bother some people, but the entrance has a roll screen. Since I was a woman, they showed me to the room farthest inside. The receptionist was handsome and really friendly. You could tell from his face he was a good person. When I left, I overheard local women telling him how much they appreciated his polite greetings. It moved me, seeing that he treated everyone kindly, and made me think about my own words and actions. ^^

The one thing that bothered me was the lack of soundproofing in the private room. I could hear restaurant customers and music. Otherwise, it had what I needed, and I wasn't inconvenienced. It's a hostel, so I didn't expect a hotel, but the consistent design was lovely and comfortable. You can tell the owner put care and good taste into every item. Four stars for the noise.
