Royal Twin Hotel Kyoto Hachijoguchi

The breakfast at Royal Twin Hotel Kyoto runs from 7.00am to 10.30am, with an outstanding spread of Japanese, Chinese, and Western food. I’d put it above what many more expensive hotels serve, and second to none. I’ve spent well over 300 nights in hotels around the world for work and holidays, across 3-, 4-, and 5-star places, and Royal Twin Hotel Kyoto Hachijoguchi ranks among the best I’ve stayed in. The rooms are spotless, smell fresh, and are clearly well looked after. Shower pressure is excellent, the beds are extremely comfortable, and there’s a generous, thoughtfully chosen range of complimentary personal amenities. Royal Twin Hotel Kyoto delivers a great stay and product. I recommend it very highly. Well done.

The public bath was the standout for us, it’s large and wonderful. We stayed in a smart Kaguya twin room, which was on the small side and tight with two suitcases. Being on the top floor helped keep things fairly quiet, though we could still hear the station. It wasn’t loud enough to interrupt our sleep. The hotel is just across a crosswalk from Kyoto station, and has good facilities and friendly staff. The staff were excellent and spoke fluent English. A great economical option if you want to be very close to the station.

Being close to Kyoto train station was a plus, but I wouldn’t stay here again. The rooms were small and the bathrooms felt like they belonged in a mobile home. The onsite laundry machines were a mess: cleaning and drying took all day, and my clothes still weren’t dry. After a night out I had to go to a laundromat a block away to finish the job, and one of my new jackets was ruined. Service was just so-so.

I found this fairly new hotel on Google Map and booked a tatami-style room. It wasn’t large, but there was enough room for two, and the mattress was comfortable. Everything was very clean, cozy, and well maintained. Breakfast was delicious, and I loved the hotel’s Onsen. There’s also an in-house laundromat near it. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always smiling. I loved my stay and would recommend it.
