The hotel feels like a traditional Japanese inn, even though it costs about what you’d pay for a regular business hotel. I especially liked how carefully the whole place is laid out. There’s even a laundry room inside the public bath changing area, so you can wash and dry clothes while using the sauna. Washing is free with detergent included, and the dryer is 100 yen for 20 minutes. The bath and sauna are open all day except from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and there’s free ice cream after a soak, or Yakult in the morning. You can borrow manga and take it back to your room, with baskets provided. Breakfast was good too. The sauna itself is a highlight: aromatic löyly runs automatically every 20 minutes, and there’s a cold plunge with a 150 cm deep section at a comfortable temperature. The outdoor relaxation area is pleasant, and the quality feels on par with newer city saunas. The sauna music by Kengo Tokusashi adds a nice touch. The main drawback is the limited choice of good restaurants around Unnan. Matsue is about 40 minutes away by car and Izumo around 30, so I’d suggest eating near one of those places before heading back, and keeping the meal non-alcoholic.

The room was neat, and the fridge had water and apple jelly. I was in a rush and only managed to eat the jelly, but I appreciated the thoughtful service. After bathing, the free ice cream was tasty, as were the midnight noodles. It was my first stay, and I enjoyed having several kinds of baths to choose from, including warm and hot pools, an open-air bath, a sauna, and a cold bath. The place is compact, but it’s comfortable and easy to relax in. I’d stay here again for sure.

The location worked well for my trip, with the Mitoya-Kitsugi Interchange close by and Izumo Taisha Shrine about a 40-minute drive away. I’d recommend the hotel to others, and I’d come back when I have work nearby. At an ordinary business hotel price, the extras are a lot. The first-floor public bath is a real highlight. There’s an open-air bath, a sauna with löyly and a herbal aroma, plus pot-shaped and carbonated baths. Relaxing music plays while you soak. The changing room has lotion, moisturizer, hair tonic, combs and other basics, along with very good hair dryers that dried my hair in no time. After bathing, there’s a choice of mini ice cream or lactic acid drinks, which seems to vary by time. Manga are available too, and people were relaxing with ice cream and comics. There’s also free Yonaki Soba, a mini ramen, at the restaurant from 9:30 to 11 p.m. I stayed overnight before a business trip. The hotel opened in summer 2025, so the inside and outside were clean and looked lovely. Parking is plentiful and free. Even though I was alone, I got a double bed. There was only a shower in the room, no bathtub, since guests can use the large public bath for free.

After checking out, I realized I’d left my earphones behind. I called the hotel, and they offered to mail them to me. The person on the phone was very polite. I’d asked for cash on delivery, but the package came prepaid the next day and was packed with care. I’m grateful for the quick delivery and the thoughtfulness. I’ve stayed at Dormy Inn hotels around Japan many times, and this visit stood out. The building and rooms were new and very clean, and the public bath and changing area were the cleanest I’ve seen at a Dormy Inn. The free ice cream after bathing was replenished right away too, a small detail that made an impression. I visit Shimane regularly, so I’d like to stay at Dormy Inn again.

Breakfast was a real plus. The buffet, made with local ingredients, was delicious, and I think visitors can get a good taste of the area through it. I missed the Yonaki Soba, though. Next time I stay, I’d like to book a few nights. I was back in my hometown and spent a night here. There used to be only smaller places to stay, so I’m glad a hotel has opened. The building still feels new and was very clean. All rooms are non-smoking, with a smoking room on the first floor. The shower has a door, so the toilet doesn’t get soaked, and I liked having a separate sink as well. The public bath was also very clean, and I could take my time there with relaxing music. The free ice cream after bathing was a lovely perk.
