I booked after seeing several reviews, and the place worked reasonably well as a base for visiting Izumo. There are convenience stores, restaurants and a laundromat nearby, and the front desk is open until midnight. Check-in and check-out went smoothly, and they handled the basic requests well. The room was a fairly typical, slightly dated business hotel single. The bathroom seemed to have been updated seven or eight years ago and was reasonably clean, with good hot and cold water pressure. It had a bidet, and the shampoo and conditioner were the somewhat nicer kind used in Super Hotel chains. The front desk man wasn’t especially cheerful, but he was adequate. Walls are thin, and I could hear people talking. On the plus side, the resin window frames provide good insulation. The internet took some troubleshooting. I couldn’t get online with the JODAI SSID at first, even though my laptop had an IP address through DHCP and security enabled. I suspected DNS, and changing it to Google DNS, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, fixed it. My phone had the same problem and connected as soon as I set DNS manually. I don’t know the details, but the room’s connection device is a SoftBank replacement router, and I suspect its upstream settings may be wrong. I’m not sure who should be told, and the lobby staff might not know how to explain the issue. My ten-year-old computer has Wi-Fi speed below 5, so I only got about 50 Mbps. A newer device might be faster, but the connection score was decent and it seemed usable. If you’re stuck connecting, changing DNS may help. This isn’t a match for modern hotel service, and a Dormy Inn opened nearby this summer that’s always full. The price difference is only a little over 10%, which makes the comparison tough. Expect a business hotel from the late 1990s and it should be fine. It can’t compete with hotels from the past decade, but could be worth trying if you can’t book elsewhere nearby. Let’s be adults and appreciate what’s good about other places too.

It has the basics you need, and while the place is old, it isn’t dirty. Still, I wouldn’t call it clean. Wi-Fi is so weak that you can barely check social media in the early hours. It seems like one person is running things, so service can be awkward early in the morning. If you use a coupon, they don’t accept credit cards. It’s understandable if the rate is cheap, but this is pretty average lodging.

I had to find a room for work at short notice, and this did the job. The Showa-era look inside and out won’t appeal to everyone. My single room didn’t include meals, so I can’t comment on the food, but restaurants, convenience stores and drugstores are close by. Some rooms may be better than others, but mine was clean enough and had what I needed. It was a hot summer day when I arrived around 5 p.m., and the air conditioning was already on, so the room felt comfortable straight away. I also happened to catch the sunset from the window, which was nice.

The room itself was fine, like a standard business hotel, and the river view from the window was nice. In spring, you could probably see cherry blossoms too. My experience with the equipment wasn’t so good. The TV and both remote controls, for the TV and air conditioner, seemed close to broken. The air conditioning was also poorly managed and stayed set at 23°C. My colleagues didn’t run into any of these issues, so it seems I was the only one who had a disappointing stay.

I booked two nights with breakfast, but on the second morning an elderly man put my breakfast on a table well away from where I was sitting instead of bringing it to my table. When I asked why, he said he was tired. That was a disappointing way to start the day, so I skipped breakfast. I’ll read reviews before booking next time.
