Sky Hotel Uozu

That room was the darkest I’ve ever stayed in, especially at night. There were no ceiling lights, just a desk lamp, and even after I complained that I couldn’t see the TV, the lamp they brought didn’t brighten things enough. It made me feel even more depressed. The bathroom was much brighter, but there was mold on the sealant, which stood out to me because I’ve worked in room cleaning. The pajamas, pillow, bed, and bedding all smelled. There’s a coin laundry outside, with washing at 400 yen and detergent at 100 yen 🥶 There were some good things: Sunplaza department store is next door, the room was comfortable during the day, BS had plenty of channels, there was four times the usual amount of toilet paper, and the shampoo and conditioner left my hair silky smooth 👍 The tall elderly man at the front desk wasn’t very helpful. I’m looking for a cheap, comfortable hotel, but lately I’ve been realizing cheap prices come with a reason. This felt like a wake. 🤢

I came to Uozu to catch firefly squid, and the hotel’s location worked well, close to Uozu Port and with parking. There are supermarkets and restaurants nearby, so finding food wasn’t a problem, and it’s also close to Uozu Station. The place is older but clean, though there were some inconveniences, like no outlet beside the bed. I was disappointed that the male front desk staff member, who seemed to be in his 50s or 60s, came across as overbearing.

The warm service really moved me. When I checked out early because of snow, a staff member chatted with me while I made the complimentary coffee and understood how hard it must be to drive in that weather. I don’t usually get to talk much with business hotel staff, so that made me very happy. After I’d driven quite a distance, I realized I’d left something behind and called the hotel. They offered to send it to my home, and it arrived the very next day. I was surprised by how quickly they handled it. They also upgraded my room at check-in because one was available, so I could relax. I love Toyama Prefecture and plan to visit again. I’d like to stay here next time, too. I think that hospitality reflects the character of the local people. Thank you.

It’s a shame the air conditioner was broken. It was already switched on and set to 18 degrees Celsius, so the hotel staff must have known.
