GUEST HOUSE MASAGO - Hostel

A quiet room and a really good bed made for a great night's sleep. There was plenty of room for my suitcase, and the internet worked very well. The guesthouse owner was friendly, and the shared area had washbasins and a large lobby. Bathing is at the public bath in the same building, included with the stay, and well worth using. Free parking was a nice extra, and there's a noodle shop downstairs too. It's a family business. Good value for the price.

For a guest house, this was first rate. It was spotless and the staff were friendly. Just don't arrive expecting a hotel.

Guesthouse Masago costs ¥4,800 a night without meals, and WiFi is available. There's a restaurant in the Masago building, or you can eat elsewhere. If you're driving, Seven-Eleven and Secoma are nearby. Parking is free, which was a relief. The fridge is there for your own drinks, and shampoo and conditioner are available at the front desk, so remember to bring them along to the public bath. It's outside, on the left. I think heading over around 8:30 PM after checking in should work, since you can't bathe the next day. The walls are a little thin, so earplugs might come in handy. It was my first experience using a public bath at a guesthouse!

I thought the dorm beds were pretty standard, and getting a free ticket to Masagoyu on the first floor made the stay good value. I was there in July 2025, the night before heading to the Tomakomai Ferry Terminal for a tour. The parking is across the road from the inn and unpaved, so motorcyclists should take care. My disappointment was the receptionist. I didn't catch the price when it was first told to me, and when I asked again, she snapped out the amount in a condescending, brusque way. It surprised me and left me feeling bad.
