Ureshino Onsen Yadoya Uchiroji Hondori

We had a really good stay, and I want to clear up a few things I saw in earlier negative reviews. The public onsens stay open late, the alkaline water was pleasantly hot, and there was free ice cream in the rest area. There are also two private onsens you can reserve using a QR code in your room, with the first 40-minute session free. Yukatas and other amenities are easy to find on the second floor. On the third floor you can blend your own tea bags, and on the fourth you can roll your own tea. The hotel is modern, and the rooms are large. They have a wash basin and toilet, but no shower, which isn't unusual for ryokans with onsens. We slept comfortably in the large twin beds, and no fire alarm went off overnight. Checkout is self-service and easy. Dinner can be booked there for around 7000¥. I don't know if it's good, but it looked fancy. The ground floor is a coffee shop with excellent chocolate ice cream and amazing green tea fondant. Walk through to the back for the automatic check-in counters, which are easy to use. I understood that check-in needs to be done by 20:00, earlier on Wednesdays, because the building is then unmanned. Outside the shop, there's a parking map. We used P1 behind the building. It's covered with cobblestones and has a rear door that takes a room key, so you could check in first and then bring your luggage. I didn't check the other parking lots. We'd definitely stay again!

I had a really disappointing stay and wouldn't recommend this hotel. There was no proper shower in the room, just a toilet. The hot spring water didn't seem very clean and smelled strongly of bleach. The rooms also have awful soundproofing. At 2:30 AM, I could hear staff talking while they showered in the hot springs.

I can only speak to the coffee restaurant. Ordering through a QR code made for a terrible experience. They still interact with you to hand over the menu and explain the system, give you the free Wi-Fi code, bring your food, and take payment. Why make ordering another QR code chore? You're here and I'm here, please just take my order. By the time the food came, the whole experience had already put me in a bad mood. The server also walked away while I was paying. Really bad.

My booking through Agoda was confirmed and clearly included breakfast for two, but when we arrived at 8:00 am, the hotel refused to serve us. Staff said we were only entitled to brunch at 11:00 am, even though the required checkout time was 10:00 am. That would have meant leaving our room and waiting an hour for the morning meal we'd already paid for. The hotel changed the meal arrangement without asking us first. Staff pointed to Japanese text on our tickets as the reason, despite the English confirmation saying "Breakfast Ticket" (pic 2). It felt like they were deliberately avoiding the booking. We were embarrassed in the lobby, and our itinerary was delayed. After a long dispute, Agoda eventually compensated us, but the hotel management refused to take responsibility and passed the buck to the agency. This was an incredibly disappointing experience at Ureshino Onsen Yadoya Uchiroji. I'd strongly advise international travelers to find a hotel that honors its commitments and treats guests with basic professional dignity.
