Hotel Hamahigajima Resort

Waking up to the Pacific views was perfect, and parking is large and free. Dinner sets were excellent, and the staff were great about helping us sort out WiFi problems. I'd recommend coming here to rest your spirit in the off season!

We were excited to arrive for a five day stay. The lobby looked nice, and the surrounding area and beach were beautiful. The staff were kind and helpful, and seemed to be doing their best, but the room left us disappointed. It smelled strongly of mildew, with visible mold in several places, and the wallpaper and furniture were badly worn and need replacing. The bathroom was okay. The beds were incredibly hard. My wife has back problems and barely slept, and we've slept on futons on tatami mats that were softer. We checked out after one night and moved to another hotel. I don't think my standards are snobby, and I've spent years sleeping in cold racing trailers, but when I book a four star place I do expect a certain standard. The hotel needs renovation. It looked like some work was already happening, since the bath was closed for renovations, so maybe it will eventually live up to its appearance. A few days of thoroughly cleaning everything would help a lot. The location is so nice that I'd consider returning if the hotel gets fixed up. There's lots of parking too. I don't like writing harsh reviews, especially when the staff were so nice and helpful with our early checkout. Thank you!

The beaches were beautiful, the restaurant food was delicious, and the staff were incredibly kind and friendly. A wonderful hotel.

The setting up on a hill is serene and relaxing, with a fantastic sea view. There aren't many rooms, so the hotel stays quiet and feels private, a good fit if you want peace. The hotel looks dated, though the room itself has been renovated. The toilet is spacious compared with other hotels in Japan, and I was surprised to find an air purifier in the room. My sleep was poor because the TV is very basic and small, and the bedding was hard with a tiny pillow. The owner should address the bedding urgently. The pool wasn't operating during my stay, and it didn't look like it was being renovated. There's not much in the way of hotel facilities, and food choices on the island are limited, though there are some water activities nearby. Parking is ample for drivers. April's weather was cool and suited water sports well. Breakfast, served from 0700-0900, was fairly good and enough by Japanese standards, but don't expect an international menu. It's a good place to stay on the island, but I'd only come back if they change the bed and bedding.
