Business Hotel Hatago Komeya

The room and inn were clean, and I had a fridge, kettle, cups and tea. The futon, yukata and towels had no smell, and a toothbrush was provided. They were courteous when I checked in late, and breakfast was made properly rather than being pre-prepared. The Kumamoto rice and Kyushu miso soup were delicious. The room was the problem. I had specifically booked non-smoking, but was put in a smoking room. When I raised it, they said all the second-floor rooms were smoking rooms, though this wasn't stated anywhere and the listing described the facility as non-smoking. They offered a non-smoking room in another building if I paid the difference, but didn't apologize. While I was in the bath, they put an air purifier outside my room. There was also quite a bit of hair in a corner. Apart from that, things were fine.

The food was a real help after a tiring day on the road, and I enjoyed noticing the little design choices around the hotel. The furniture and decor, the subtle fabric patterns in the rooms, the wall pieces and even the bathroom tiles all showed a nice artistic eye. I was touring by motorcycle and broadened my search after seeing high prices and few openings in central Kumamoto. This compact hotel had good reviews, and the landlady's hospitality lived up to them.

After searching everywhere for a room while traveling by Shinkansen on urgent business, I was close to giving up because places were full. This inn was where I finally landed, and the hostess was charming. Breakfast was delicious!

The room was stylish, and the staff were really friendly, so I could relax. I was passing through after a motorcycle ride from Takachiho Gorge to Mount Aso, with a flight from Amakusa to Nagasaki the next day. I booked the cheaper room without a bath. Since the public bath was out of order, they kindly upgraded me to a room with one.♪
