The front desk staff were polite, and the basic amenities were there, though the hairdryer was tiny. But the room was still dirty even though I’d read the reviews and come prepared. There were several hairs on the folded futon. I can live with grime on the walls, but the hair needs to be dealt with. At night, closing the Japanese-style room door made the temperature much more bearable. The air conditioner barely cooled the room even on high, maybe because the old building is poorly insulated. The clock was off, and the thin curtains let the bright streetlights in. Even with the fluorescent light switched off, it still glowed blue. It’s fairly close to the station. At nearly 10,000 yen, though, this feels unacceptable. Maybe it would be all right at a lower price.

Being near Utsunomiya’s downtown made it easy to check in and head out for food or sightseeing. The inn sits by the river, and since I visited in April, I got to walk along the cherry blossoms. I also found the parking lot easy to use when arriving by car. The building’s interior is dated, as others have said, though that may bother some people more than others. I thought it was clean and didn’t mind it during my stay. The front desk staff were polite, too.
The rooms are old, so this would be a last resort for me. The parking lot is a long way off, and the price isn’t especially cheap. Noise was the bigger problem: the fan and clock were loud, and with such thin walls I could hear people in the next room talking and sneezing. I’ve never stayed somewhere with soundproofing this poor. The pillows were too high for me to sleep.
The building is old, but it was clean and conveniently near the station. It seems like a good fit for students or anyone needing a short stay. I had an unexpected situation and needed somewhere to stay that night, so I called in a hurry. They kindly found room for me, and the front desk staff were very helpful. I felt relieved. Thank you for everything.
It’s handy enough to be reasonably close to the station, and if all you need is somewhere to sleep, it’ll do. The place has a real Showa-era feel. The room doors are unusually low, and you notice why as soon as you walk in. The air conditioner’s settings are basically low, high, and high, so there isn’t much choice.
